Helping you get back on track

Let’s find which service is right for you to get back to the activities that you love.

Manual therapy

Physiotherapy

These 45 or 60 min appointments aim to identify and correct the dysfunctional movement patterns that are often at the root of pain and injury. This facilitates a more complete rehab process, and empowers the patient with the knowledge of what to do to prevent, minimize, or self-manage re-occurrences.  During an Initial Physiotherapy visit an individual will undergo a one-on-one 60 minute assessment - a period during which the we gets to know the patient, and they can ask questions about the problems that have brought them to seek assistance with their injury or mobility - whether it was an accident, a fall, a sports injury, a gradual deterioration, or the onset of pain during everyday activity. A thorough Physical assessment looking at range of motion, strength and motor control will be performed and a treatment plan will be discussed to address how you will proceed. The therapist may use various techniques from hands-on manual therapy, joint mobilization, soft tissue release, acupuncture/ dry needling and/or active rehabilitation to improve range of motion, strength or activation of the various areas currently affected.

  • Acupuncture is an ancient, safe and effective alternative to medication as it stimulates the release of endorphins (the body’s natural pain-relieving Neuro hormones) through the insertion of needles into specific anatomical points (acupuncture points) to encourage natural healing.

    The therapeutic effects include:

    Pain relief :
    —Increased energy
    —Improved mood
    —Improved mobility/ function

  • This is a system for the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain syndromes (chronic pain conditions that occur in the musculoskeletal system when there is no obvious sign of injury or inflammation). The treatment, which utilizes acupuncture needles because they are the thinnest implements available that are designed to penetrate deep within muscle tissue, specifically targets injured muscles that have contracted and become shortened from distress. The goal is to release the tightened or shortened muscle band/ fiber which presses on and irritates the nerve.

We offer both IMS and Anatomical Acupuncture here at Compass depending on the needs of the patient.

  • Manual therapy techniques are skilled hand movements and skilled passive movements of joints and soft tissue that are intended to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, induce relaxation, mobilize or manipulate soft tissue and joints, modulate pain, and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction.

    Techniques may include:
    —Manual traction
    —Massage or soft tissue release
    —Mobilization/manipulation
    —Passive range of motion

The Physiotherapist will select, prescribe, and implement manual therapy techniques when the examination findings, diagnosis, and prognosis indicate use of these techniques to:

—Decrease edema, pain, spasm, or swelling
    —Enhance health, wellness, and fitness
    —Enhance or maintain physical performance
    —Increase the ability to move
—Prevent or remediate impairment in body functions and structures, activity limitations, or participation restrictions to improve physical function

Pilates

Clinical Pilates

These One-on-One 45 or 60 min sessions will utilize the principles of Pilates in combination with manual therapy and hands-on facilitation to address either excessive mobility (hypermobility) or restriction in range of motion (stiffness) to improve strength from the inside out. Breathing techniques will be emphasized to improve one’s activation and postural control. Various pieces of equipment such as the reformer, tower, chair and barrel will be used to identify non-optimal movement patterns and then restore recruitment to improve overall function. The goal will be to design a program specific to your needs whether it be sport-specific training or improving activities of daily living in order to return to the activities you love.

    —Stiffness or Hypermobility

  • —Improve motor control strategies
    —Improve postural control & balance
    —Reduce joint and muscle pain

Scoliosis Management

Have you or your child been diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) or Scheuermann's Kyphosis?  Are you interested in learning more about conservative management of this spinal disorder? The concepts and principles for treatment have evolved over the years but are based on sensorimotor and kinaesthetic principles with the main objective to facilitate corrections of the altered posture and teach the patient to maintain the corrected posture in their activities of daily living. This session will be a one-on-one 60 min visit where the therapist will design a specific program after identifying your unique curve pattern. The goals of Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercise (PSSE) are to help minimize curve progression, improve respiration, decrease functional limitations, prevent or treat spinal pain, prevent surgery, and improve general health and activities of daily living.
